Modeling Corona Wind Electrohydrodynamics

The electrohydrodynamic flow (corona wind) modeling capability is developed by customizing the Fidap software.  The condition for electrical discharge at the corona wire is represented by the Peek’s law and the Kaptsov’s assumption.  The model can be used to simulate the charging of a moving dielectric substrate.  The accumulation of charges on the dielectric surface is evaluated from a transport equation for the surface charge density.  Fidap’s user-defined subroutines are used to implement these conditions and equations. This code can be used for understanding the structure of corona wind and the interactions of it with the background air flow.  It can also be used as a tool for corona device design optimization.
